 2018 Preview

Red Bay completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Red Bay just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region eight with a 2-4 region record.

The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2010.

Since 2010, Red Bay has gone a combined 64-26. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Red Bay has gone a combined 182-90. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A and 48th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

The Tigers are led by head coach Michael D. Jackson who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-11 over the past four seasons at Red Bay. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Jackson.

Coach Jackson's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 104-73 (58.8%). His 104 wins rank 55th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Jackson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won two region championships.

The Red Bay Tigers will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 2A but move from region eight over to region seven.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season. Red Bay came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Colbert Heights on Friday, August 24 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Colbert Heights Wildcats finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in second place in Class 3A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 34-13.

Red Bay and Colbert Heights have met a total of 40 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 25-15-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Colbert Heights winning by a score of 14-6.
